3D Printing and Potomac Photonics Support Boston University’s Stem Cell Research

Potomac Photonics, an ISO‑certified micro‑fabrication company, partnered with Boston University to produce controlled microenvironments for stem cell research. BU needed highly accurate, robust parts with fine detail—precision stencils—to manage and measure how stem cells interact and differentiate.

Potomac used 3D Systems’ Projet MJP multi‑jet 3D printer to fabricate UV‑cured plastic stencils with 0.001–0.002 in/in accuracy, producing multiple patterned designs for seeded stem cells. Delivered through Potomac’s Educational Manufacturing Initiative, the high‑resolution parts enabled BU’s experiments and demonstrated how advanced 3D printing accelerates biomedical research and innovation.
