A 3Dflow Case Study
The Italian company DL Droni was hired by the Municipality of Piadena Drizzona to assess the damaged Aqueduct Tower, which had become a public safety hazard due to falling debris. The challenge was to perform a detailed visual analysis and create an accurate 3D model of the tall, complex structure to aid in its restoration. DL Droni used 3Dflow's photogrammetry software, 3DF Zephyr, to process the data.
Using a drone, DL Droni captured 528 aerial photographs of the tower. The team at DL Droni then processed this data using 3DF Zephyr to generate a highly accurate, georeferenced 3D model. The solution from 3Dflow produced a dense point cloud of nearly 3.8 million points and a textured mesh. A subsequent test with a newer version of the software, 3DF Zephyr 5.0, showed significant improvements, reducing the total processing time from 16 hours to under 6 hours while maintaining high detail and a mean residual of 0.028 meters.
