Centro De Treinamento Tático – CTT CBC, a tactical training center, needed a method to analyze the deformation of projectiles after impact for forensic ballistics applications. The challenge was to develop a procedure that was simple, fast, and low-cost to assess compression in different calibers and targets. They partnered with 3Dflow and utilized its 3DF Zephyr photogrammetry software to generate 3D models of the recovered projectiles.

Using 3Dflow's solution, the team captured images of the projectiles and processed them in 3DF Zephyr to create accurate 3D models for measurement. The results successfully demonstrated that photogrammetry is an efficient approach for ballistic studies, showing measurable differences in deformation between calibers, such as .380 AUTO deforming less than 9 mm Luger. This work by 3Dflow provided a significant method to aid forensic applications.
