A 3Dflow Case Study
A.T. Suministros S.A. de C.V., a marine engineering firm, faced the challenge of accurately modeling a yacht's hull shape for CAD-based hydrostatics and stability analysis. The project was complicated by the boat's uniform, reflective surfaces. To overcome this, they utilized 3Dflow's photogrammetry software, 3DF Zephyr Lite, to create a 3D model from photographs.
The team from 3Dflow successfully processed 240 photos taken with a standard DSLR camera to generate a 3D mesh of the vessel, despite difficult lighting conditions. This model was then used as a reference for reverse engineering and precise vectorization in Rhinoceros and Orca3D. The solution delivered by 3Dflow provided the foundational data required for all subsequent naval architecture calculations, enabling applications from structural modifications to insurance records without the need for expensive laser scanning equipment.
