Architectural Department DIDA University of Florence - Customer Case Study

The customer, the Architectural Department DIDA at the University of Florence, faced the challenge of surveying the historic but ruined Verruca Fortress, a site in a remote, inaccessible location in an advanced state of decay. Their goal was to acquire detailed plans, elevations, and orthophotos to analyze the structure's morphology and damage without invasive methods. They partnered with vendor 3Dflow, using its 3DF Zephyr software as part of their photogrammetric solution.

3Dflow's solution involved processing 682 aerial images captured by a drone, which were merged with highly accurate laser scan data within 3DF Zephyr to create a detailed, scaled, and geo-referenced 3D model. This process enabled the team to extract essential outputs, including a top-view orthophoto and the elevations of all four sides of the fortress walls. The results provided the precise data necessary to conduct a thorough analysis of the structural deformation, enabling correct future monitoring and preservation efforts for the cultural heritage site.
