Crossrail, Europe's largest construction project, faced a significant challenge in managing the immense volume of asset data for its new rail network during the final handover phase. Accessing 3D models and asset information stored in their complex management system required a manual, time-consuming lookup process. To address this, they worked with vendor 3D Repo, funded by an innovation program, to develop a mobile solution for asset management.

3D Repo developed a unique mobile application that utilized existing Data Matrix codes on assets to provide instant, two-way access to the central database. This solution enabled workers in the field to view asset information, 2D drawings, and 3D models directly on-site and to log new issues in real-time. The system successfully streamlined the handover process, maximizing Crossrail's previous investments in asset management by creating a centralized, efficient one-stop solution for post-delivery operations.
