Idaho Virtualization Laboratory - Customer Case study

The Idaho Virtualization Laboratory (IVL), a research unit of the Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University, needed to produce larger, more durable exhibit pieces but was constrained by the size and cost of their in-house 3D printing capabilities — most notably for a giant wolf spider in their “In the Shadows” exhibit that required a 12‑foot leg span and multiple large parts.

IVL purchased a 3D Platform WorkSeries 400 large-format printer, which the team had dialed in within a week and used to print 11 PLA pieces (HFA 0.6 mm nozzle). The printer reduced part counts, produced stronger components that were easier to assemble and finish, and increased throughput — delivering a realistic, cost-effective large-scale exhibit while reducing wear on their other machines.
