High School FIRST Robotics teams takes home award with help of 3DP printer

Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, AZ — led by science and engineering teacher Tyler Bolen — tasked advanced students with designing and building a roughly 120-pound FIRST Robotics robot nicknamed Osiris. The team needed durable, functional structural and protective components produced quickly and affordably to meet competition requirements while providing hands-on STEM learning.

Sunnyslope acquired a 3DPlatform 300 Series large-format printer after an on-site demo and integrated 3D printing and CAD into the curriculum; students now handle modeling and printing of both small and large, structurally stable parts. The printed components helped the team win the Visualization Award, reduced project costs by an estimated 25–30%, and increased print speed and part capacity to boost both competition performance and classroom experience.
