Case Study: Rapid 3D achieves a high-profile Currie Cup RC truck promotion with 3D Platform’s WorkSeries 300

A 3D Platform Case Study

Preview of the Rapid 3D Case Study

3D Printing an RC truck body for a high profile rugby promotion

Rapid 3D, a South African service bureau with facilities in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Howick, was contracted by AFGRI to produce a life‑sized radio-controlled truck to carry the kicking tee for the Blue Bulls during Currie Cup matches. The truck body measured 1100 x 400 x 350 mm and weighed 25 kg—too large for desktop printers, which would have required many small parts, long print times and extensive assembly.

Using a 3D Platform WorkSeries 300 large‑format printer, Rapid 3D printed the main body in two optimized, shelled sections, designed mounting brackets and assembled and painted the finished parts. The result was a branded, broadcast‑ready RC truck that met AFGRI’s requirements, reduced print and assembly time, and demonstrated the speed, cost‑efficiency and flexibility of large‑format 3D printing for promotional and industrial applications.
