How to Develop Training Courses on Safety in Nuclear Power Plants for Onsite Contractors

EDF launched a digital training program to support its international expansion and strengthen safety across its nuclear sites. A hybrid project team combining Nuclear Park Management, Industrial Policy, Service Providers and the Production & Engineering Training Unit set out to train 3,000 managers, deliver safety-related courses and documentation to plants and onsite contractors, create an engaging learning platform, train supervisors to produce online content, and establish a sustainable learning community.

The team built and deployed a platform and train‑the‑trainer approach that produced more than 1,000 courses and 90 programs in one year, trained over 2,600 people across 450 service providers, and achieved an average completion rate above 80% for mandatory courses. Over 80 trainers contributed to content creation, and a permanent governance structure was set up using the top 10 local service providers, who now represent more than 50% of learners.
