Yale Alumni Non-profit Alliance - Customer Case Study

Yale Alumni Non‑profit Alliance (YANA) is a volunteer‑led alumni affinity group launched in 2010 to connect Yale graduates working in the social sector. Faced with the common challenge of turning initial enthusiasm into a sustainable organization, founders needed to define a clear mission, secure institutional support, recruit leaders and volunteers, and create programs that served alumni across generations and career stages.

YANA addressed these needs through deliberate steps: monthly gatherings, branding and a mission statement, event guidelines, surveys to shape programming, volunteer committees, chapters, a 501(c)(3) filing, student fellowships, mentorships, conferences, webinars and an executive director role. Today it runs 100+ events a year, has 3,500 members and eight chapters, earns university awards, supports internships and mentoring, and provides scalable models for replication — a measurable success in engagement, diversity and impact.
