Red Lion Hotels Corporation, a hospitality and leisure company with 47 hotels in the United States and one in Victoria, British Columbia, needed a hosting environment for its hyper-local web and mobile platforms that could scale and reduce infrastructure costs. Its existing colocation facility was cost prohibitive and inflexible, so it brought in 2nd Watch to evaluate hosting options for the new platforms built on Umbraco, Windows, and SQL Server.

2nd Watch recommended moving the platforms to AWS, and the migration included Amazon EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon S3, Amazon VPC, and Amazon CloudFront. The shift was expected to cut costs by almost 40%, improve network speeds and load times, and support traffic spikes around holidays and vacation seasons.
