Crate and Barrel needed a more flexible hosting platform because its traditional managed hosting environment could not keep up with growing online demand. The retailer wanted a system that could scale with demand and improve the customer experience, especially during the holiday shopping season, so it turned to 2nd Watch for help with an AWS migration.

2nd Watch migrated all three Crate and Barrel web and e-commerce properties to AWS, decommissioned one data center and 25 servers, and built the new environment with AWS EC2, RDS, ELB and S3. The migration handled Black Friday and Cyber Monday without a single technical or operational incident, and the new setup can scale up on demand and handle hundreds of checkouts per minute while reducing monthly operating costs.
