Celgene needed a faster way to support computational cancer research. Its on-premise High Performance Computing system was slowing researchers and delaying time to results, while the company also wanted a secure, scalable way to collaborate with academic research labs. 2nd Watch helped Celgene plan its move to AWS and build the cloud foundation for that transition.

Using AWS services and guidance from 2nd Watch, Celgene migrated HPC workloads to Amazon EC2 and stored genomic data in S3 and Glacier, with collaboration enabled through Amazon VPC, AWS IAM, and AWS Direct Connect. The result was a major reduction in HPC job completion time, from weeks or months to just hours, along with the ability to run multiple simulations at once and expand collaboration with research universities and the public sector.
