Case Study: North East Water frees up GIS staff with 1Spatial’s FME Server validation solution

North East Water frees up GIS Staff by auto-validation of as-built designs

North East Water, a regional water utility in Victoria, Australia, needed to free up GIS resources for higher-value work while avoiding custom or proprietary solutions. The organization wanted consulting engineers to take responsibility for submitting correct as-built CAD drawings, and it turned to 1Spatial and FME Server to support a more standardized, web-based workflow.

1Spatial configured two FME Server web applications: one to automatically validate submitted CAD drawings against North East Water’s rules and another to accept approved files into the GIS environment. The new self-service process reduced the GIS team’s time spent fixing drawings, improved standardization for ESRI Utility Network imports, and let North East Water retire an inflexible, expensive legacy solution while extending the benefits of FME Server to other projects across the business.
