No 1 AIDU feeds forces with accurate aeronautical information
No 1 Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (AIDU), part of the UK’s defence intelligence community, needed a better way to manage highly accurate aeronautical data used for flight planning and chart production. Its old approach kept each chart in a separate database, so even small changes had to be updated across many systems, creating heavy manual effort and the risk of inconsistencies. 1Spatial worked with AIDU to address these challenges with the Aeronautical Production System (APS).
1Spatial implemented APS as a single object-oriented global database for aeronautical data, automating updates, chart production and data sharing. The result was a major productivity gain: the important DVOF data update process was reduced from 28 days to 2 days, custom chart creation fell from months to a couple of days, and AIDU gained easier intelligence sharing with backwards-compatible DAFIF extracts.
