A 1Spatial Case Study
Transport for London (TfL) worked with 1Spatial after a burst water main caused major disruption on the Central Line and exposed the need for a network-wide, consistent way to assess flood risk across London Underground’s 270 stations. TfL needed an objective, up-to-date analysis rather than ad hoc reports in different formats, and it wanted a solution that could be continuously refined as assets and environmental conditions changed, using FME and related GIS capabilities.
1Spatial provided licences, technical support, training and consultancy around Safe Software’s FME to streamline data transformation and build a flood risk management GIS model. The new workflow reduced total data processing time by 13 weeks per year, cut one transformation process from two weeks to 18 hours, and saved TfL £15,000 in survey work. It also enabled 100 users to run their own analyses, improved decision-making across the business, and laid the groundwork for predictive flood risk management using real-time weather data.
