How The Associated Press keeps journalists’ data safe with 1Password

The Associated Press, a global news organization, needed to secure sensitive reporting workflows and protect journalists and their sources while operating across many countries. With staff using multiple password managers and teams sharing credentials and MFA methods insecurely, AP lacked centralized control over privileged access, device security, and visibility into account activity.

AP rolled out 1Password organization-wide, using Travel Mode to hide sensitive vaults when crossing borders, built-in two-factor authentication and an authenticator for secure MFA sharing, centralized admin controls for fast onboarding and revocation, and an Activity Log for monitoring. The result: stronger protection for journalists and sources, elimination of insecure credential and MFA sharing, streamlined password management, and improved security visibility across the company.
