Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, which manages around 140 heritage assets including The Rocks and Darling Harbour and has committed to ambitious carbon-reduction targets, needed to cut the energy costs of its PC estate and deploy software patches and upgrades more effectively across its workforce.

The Authority implemented 1E NightWatchman with Microsoft ConfigMgr and WSUS to automatically shut down PCs at 7pm (with user deferral), wake machines for after-hours patching, and provide detailed power-use reporting. The deployment delivered a 51% reduction in PC power costs and associated CO2 emissions, enabled zero-impact patching, raised staff awareness of sustainability, and catalyzed further efficiency measures like server consolidation and virtualization.
