A 1E Case Study
Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, a district general hospital serving a large local population with nearly 2,900 staff, needed to cut costs and meet NHS carbon-reduction targets. With around 1,200 PCs routinely left running overnight, the Trust sought a guaranteed, predictable way to reduce energy bills while accommodating departments (like A&E and X‑ray) that require 24/7 access and ensuring no disruption to staff work.
The Trust deployed 1E’s NightWatchman, using passive benchmarking then automated, scheduled shutdowns with departmental scheduling and user overrides so critical systems remained available. The flexible, non‑disruptive rollout delivered predictable savings of about £27,000 per year and reduced emissions by more than 420 tonnes of CO2 annually, with the Trust now considering adding 1E WakeUp for morning boot‑up.
