London Council reduces energy costs and achieves a fast, efficiency and secure PC management process

1E is a provider of tools that simplify and accelerate the complete software lifecycle for large organizations. An inner London borough, responsible for services from education to transport, faced tight public-sector budgets and needed a way to monitor and reduce PC energy use across about 2,000 machines while avoiding disruption to users and improving patch deployment.

The council deployed 1E NightWatchman with WakeOneLAN and Client Health to enforce end-of-day shutdowns (saving unsaved work), wake machines for out-of-hours patching, and provide real-time energy reporting. The program cut energy use by 161 carbon tons, delivered annual energy savings of £22,892 (about £11.47 per PC), improved patch success and user productivity, and gave clear visibility into where further savings can be made.
