Kiwibank deploys NightWatchman and stands to save thousands in PC energy costs

Kiwibank, a 100% New Zealand‑owned bank with over 900 staff and 700,000 customers, needed a way to monitor and reduce PC energy use without disrupting users — and still be able to wake machines outside business hours for patching. Basic meters and a four‑week baseline from a trial showed roughly half of computers were left on overnight and at weekends, and the bank required a solution that integrated with its existing Microsoft ConfigMgr platform.

Kiwibank deployed 1E’s NightWatchman (via local distributor Transend), set tailored shutdown/wake policies for offices and the call centre, and established ongoing reporting and baselines. An independent verification supported the projected savings: a first‑year reduction of 163,800 kWh, about NZ$24,570 in energy cost savings, and 32 tonnes less CO2 — while preserving patching and operational requirements.
