KBC, Win10, and WSS When 21st Century Banking meets 21st Century IT

KBC is a major banking and insurance group with about 1,500 branches across 12 markets and roughly 42,000 employees. Facing a mixed estate of Windows 7 and 8.1 endpoints, limited WAN connectivity in some locations (e.g., 5 Mb links to China), and strict regulatory and security requirements, KBC needed a fast, low‑disruption move to Windows 10 and a reliable way to keep endpoints patched and compliant.

KBC implemented 1E’s Windows Servicing Suite on top of Configuration Manager, removing hundreds of distribution-point servers (including 830 in Belgium and 300 in the Czech Republic), cutting licensing and maintenance costs, and using Nomad to minimize WAN impact. WSS also automated BIOS‑to‑UEFI transitions, reduced network and helpdesk complaints, and is now embedded in boot images and application delivery—delivering faster upgrades, better patch compliance, and improved security.
