Case Study: Tableau achieves rapid deployment of 5,000 conference laptops with 1E Nomad

A 1E Case Study

Preview of the Tableau Case Study

How 1E and Tableau spun up a 5000-machine company in one week

Tableau faced a major logistical challenge preparing for its 2016 Tableau Conference: providing 5,000 pre-configured laptops across seven venues in Austin with tight turnaround times and a city-wide network that couldn’t sustain massive simultaneous file pushes. The team needed a fast, reliable way to ensure every machine ran the correct Tableau Desktop version, hosted trainers’ files, and could be reallocated between rooms on short notice without throwing huge manpower at on‑site imaging.

Tableau implemented 1E’s Nomad peer-to-peer, self-throttling distribution which centralized content while letting machines share files locally. After a 500‑laptop test that installed a new build in about three minutes, Nomad enabled automated domain joins, rapid software installs/updates across thousands of devices, and dramatically reduced manual labor—delivering over 4,000–5,000 machines quickly and efficiently while minimizing network strain.
