Case Study: US Department of State achieves 21,000-tonne annual carbon reduction and streamlined IT power & patch management with 1E (NightWatchman & Nomad)

A 1E Case Study

Preview of the US Department of State Case Study

21,000 tonne reduction of carbon footprint by US Department of State

1E partnered with the U.S. Department of State to tackle a large-scale sustainability and security challenge: how to comply with federal mandates (including EO13514) and the Department’s Greening Diplomacy Initiative, reduce energy costs across an estate of 88,986 workstations at 468 sites worldwide, and maintain security and uptime for distributed and bandwidth-constrained remote locations without disrupting operations.

1E deployed NightWatchman for automated PC power management (with Wake-on-LAN for out-of-hours patching and scans) and Nomad to deliver OS upgrades and software efficiently over constrained links. Integrated with the Department’s ConfigMgr infrastructure, the solution eliminated duplication, preserved user productivity, and produced measurable results — including a 21,000-tonne annual reduction in CO2, automated 100% out-of-hours patching, lower energy costs, and simplified enterprise-wide systems management.
