NCTIR Alliance Moving Mountains to Reconnect Communities

NCTIR, the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery alliance formed by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and KiwiRail, needed to restore road and rail links after the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake, which damaged hundreds of kilometres of infrastructure and left communities isolated. With hundreds of design professionals working across multiple locations and countries, the alliance needed a secure way to collaborate, control documents, and maintain a single source of truth, so it turned to 12d Synergy.

12d Synergy provided a common data environment and data management platform for the project, enabling remote access, version control, check-in/check-out, audit trails, rollback, and CAD management across more than 300 sub-projects. The system supported 1,600 jobs, 785 12d Model projects, 1.36 million files, 2.55 million file changes, and 5.7 TB of data, helping NCTIR deliver BIM workflows, extend design hours across time zones, and reopen the road and rail network in just over a year.
