SMEC, a global engineering consultancy, faced the challenge of presenting complex civil engineering designs to clients in an easily understandable way. Their existing tools, like 12d Model TINs, were informative but not immersive, making it difficult for stakeholders to fully grasp design concepts and leading to prolonged query resolution. They sought a more effective workflow to leverage their digital engineering data without losing intelligence.

12d Solutions' 12d Model software was integrated with Revizto and HTC VIVE to create a practical Virtual Reality solution. This allowed SMEC to export large IFC files into an immersive environment where clients could virtually walk through designs, visualize attributes, and understand spatial relationships. The result was outstanding client feedback, a significant reduction in request-for-information (RFI) resolution times, and an eight-fold business growth for their Perth office, as the VR process saved considerable time compared to previous methods.
