A 12d Solutions Case Study
Mortons Urban Solutions faced significant challenges in developing the first phase of a 4,500-lot master planned community at Kings Forest. The flat, flood-prone site required immense earthworks, with initial estimates indicating a need to import 1 million cubic metres of material at a potential cost of $20 million. The primary obstacles included managing stormwater on the vast, flat land while minimizing earthworks import and maximizing lot yield, all within strict environmental planning controls.
Using the Dynamic Drainage Analysis component within 12d Model software, Mortons Urban Solutions implemented an innovative design that treated the site like a mitigated release reservoir instead of a traditional water-shedding development. 12d Solutions' powerful software enabled the design of a complex system of 15 inter-connected basins with multiple outlets, which managed flood immunity and eliminated the need for imported material. This solution resulted in a net earthworks improvement of 260,000m³ and a cost saving of approximately $5.2 million for the first phase alone.
