BuroHappold Engineering was faced with the challenge of master planning the massive Jabal Khandama urban development on an extremely steep and constrained site near the Holy Mosque in Makkah. Key issues included designing roads within a strict 8% maximum grade on existing 40% slopes, navigating around sacred underground water sources, and accommodating huge volumes of pedestrian traffic. 12d Solutions provided its 12d Model software to help address these complex topographical and design constraints.

The solution implemented by 12d Solutions involved using their 12d Model to create detailed earthworks and finished surface models.
