Aurecon - Customer Case Study

Aurecon faced the challenge of upgrading the State Highway 16 Causeway within a sensitive National Marine Reserve. The project involved widening existing structures and adding lanes on deep, soft alluvial soils, requiring numerous vertical and horizontal alignment shifts to find the optimal engineering and cost-effective solution. This process was extremely time-consuming, as each major shift duplicated modelling efforts for the 12d Solutions team using 12d Model.

The solution implemented by 12d Solutions utilized specific 12d Model tools like decisional modifiers and computator super alignments to automate design tasks. This automation drastically reduced modelling time from several days to just a few hours for generating batter slopes and median barriers. The use of chain files also saved days of work by automating repetitive functions and generating crucial cross-sections, allowing for a more accurate assessment of sea level rise impacts and a significantly faster overall design process.
