Aurecon - Customer Case Study

Aurecon, an engineering consultancy, faced the challenge of designing three solar farms on complex, sloped terrain in Thailand for its client Bouygues Energies and Services. The primary difficulties included regrading the land to an optimal 15-degree angle for the solar panels, creating a new drainage system to prevent flooding, and minimizing costly excavation into the site's underlying hard rock while balancing cut and fill volumes.

Using 12d Model software, Aurecon's team created detailed 3D terrain models to accurately estimate soil and rock volumes. Through iterative design, they optimized the final excavation surfaces to achieve the required slopes for solar gain, control stormwater runoff, and significantly limit rock excavation. 12d Solutions' software enabled Aurecon to deliver the project on time and within budget, resulting in a combined generating capacity of 34 MW of renewable energy for Thailand.
