AECOM, working on behalf of the ETEJV and ARTC, faced a challenge to decrease train journey times by increasing rail curve radii on the north coast line. They needed to accurately model complex benching and terracing for embankment construction across over 50 sites using 12d Model, but found traditional template methods to be too glitchy, time-consuming, and inflexible for handling constant design changes and survey inaccuracies.

12d Solutions implemented a novel solution by creating a dynamic variable fill template within their 12d Model software. This approach automatically added or omitted benching steps as embankment heights changed, making the design process highly adaptable and easy to modify. This simple but effective solution was successfully applied to all 50+ sites, providing accurate volumes and construction setout data, and is a prime example of the vendor's innovative problem-solving capabilities.
