Geospatial intelligence company Leica Geosystems leverages iland, now 11:11 Systems, cloud solutions to grow and scale

Leica Geosystems, a 200-year-old geospatial intelligence company, launched SmartNet in 2010 as a subscription-based Network RTK service and faced a rapid shift from a product-sales model to a 24/7 SaaS operation. The team needed to scale quickly, eliminate fixed-asset procurement bottlenecks, and make up for limited in-house VMware expertise while ensuring high availability and low latency for real-time correction services.

Leica partnered with iland (now 11:11 Systems) for IaaS and object storage, leveraging the provider’s VMware knowledge, managed virtual environments and disaster-recovery presence. Hosting roughly 60 servers and streaming data from 600 stations, SmartNet grew over 300% in three years—servers from ~20 to 60, stations from 200 to 600, and customers to over 2,000—while accelerating deployment times, reducing capital expense, and moving toward active-active cloud failover.
