A 10ZiG Case Study
The University of York, a top-ten UK and top-100 global university, needed a way to extend its server and storage virtualization to the desktop while improving desktop control, delivering a consistent end-user experience, reducing its carbon footprint and keeping disruption to existing users to a minimum. The newly formed Digital Workspace Group led the project and required a solution that would integrate smoothly into the refurbished Harry Fairhurst building and the wider campus environment.
York deployed 10ZiG 5872v Linux Thin Clients certified for Quest vWorkspace as part of its VDI rollout, leveraging existing VMware infrastructure. The thin clients proved plug-and-play, required minimal admin effort, supported smart peripherals, and saved on licensing, energy and replacement-PC costs. Results included faster desktop delivery and management, overwhelmingly positive user feedback (99% of students didn’t realize they were using thin clients), and plans to expand the solution across departments.
