A 10ZiG Case Study
Brent Borough Council, based in an award-winning Civic Centre and 49 other sites, faced major desktop IT challenges: an estate of 2,150 Windows XP PCs produced log-on delays of 20–45 minutes, high maintenance overhead across multiple locations, and reliance on four support vans and roughly 70 IT staff. The council needed a new desktop strategy to improve productivity, simplify support and meet environmental targets tied to a BREEAM accreditation.
Brent implemented vWorkspace with 10ZiG Windows Embedded Thin Clients (working with 10ZiG to add a DNS look-up feature for easy roll-out), remotely managing ~2,027 thin clients and virtualising about 98% of desktops. The project cut initial log-on times from ~30 minutes to ~90 seconds, eliminated site-visit vans, reallocated staff (20 posts removed), reduced energy use and carbon by ~33%, supported aggressive hot-desking and helped achieve a 93% BREEAM “Outstanding” rating.
